Settling for the Shadow
God assures us that the law was the shadow of the Savior. In Paul’s letter to the church at Colosse he states: “For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality.” (Colossians 2:17NLT). Then in Hebrews 10:1NLT we read: “The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship.”
As we continue our study in Hebrews and delve further into the specifics of our new covenant, let us truly let go of the old. In Galatians we see the instruction as such:
Gal 4:22-24a 22For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. 23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. 24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants;
Gal 4:30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
If you are wondering what is delaying the manifestation of your inheritance (health, healing, prosperity,etc.) make sure that you first of all understand and then cast out the shadow (of the law). It’s either one or the other; you can’t receive the benefits of the new while you’re clutching the old.
