See Him, Know Him, Love Him
I watched a movie, Now You See Me, and I am still hearing two of the lines: “Come in closer because the more you think you see, the easier it will be to fool you. The closer you are, the less you’ll actually see ” That reminds me of the disciples. They walked with Jesus during his three year ministry, but after the resurrection, they didn’t see him and they didn’t know him:
Luk 24:16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
Jesus did not leave them in their ignorance, in verse 27 we read that: And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. That word, expounded is defined as: 1). to unfold the meaning of what is said, explain, expound; and 2). to translate into one’s native language. The Bible Study was so good, the disciples entreated Jesus to “abide” with them and Jesus did “tarry” (v.29). Then it happened, the result of personal, abiding intimacy:
Luk 24:31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
Now they see him, and then, they don’t!
We don’t have Jesus in bodily form to “expound” (remember the full definition of that word) the scriptures, but we have His promise:
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
John 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Don’t be fooled, don’t think that because you are a “Christian” and you study the scriptures (John 5:39-40) that you automatically know Him. No man hath seen (John 6:46) or knows the Father and no man knows the Son (Matt 11:27). Knowing God, who is a Spirit (John 4:24), is only by revelation from God, who is love (1 John 4:16)!!!
