Love, Guaranteed in the Three
From both the Old and the New Testaments, we have God’s modus operandi. It’s quite comforting that the Father, in teaching us how to confirm or establish a principle uses that very same principal. In the mouth or the witness of two or three, He confirms a fact or a matter (Deuteronomy 17:6, 19:15, Matthew 18:16 and 2 Corinthians 13:1- that’s two covenants and two verses from each).
As we approach the closing of the book of First John we find this passage of scriptures:
1Jo 5:6-8 NASB This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.
That word testify is (G3141), the Greek verb martyreo, and it means to affirm. In 1 John 5:11 we learn what the three affirm, that affirmation is the record: “And this is the record (G3144), that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.” John 17:3 defines eternal life for us: “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent”.
If we receive eternal life, then we have eternal life and we know both God and Jesus Christ – we know love (1 John 4:8). It is guaranteed by the agreement of the three. Now let’s do our part and connect to the three, all three: the Spirit, the water and the blood. Your sister in Christ P.King
