Have you opened your gift?
Jesus tells us that we have a gift from God, but it’s up to us to know the gift. In Luke 11:13 He says, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” The scripture draws the parallel for us so we know that the Holy Spirit is indeed the gift given to us from our Father!
John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
Not only do we need to know that the Holy Spirit is our gift, but we also have to ask to drink of, or partake of Him in order to receive Him.
John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
Once we ask all that’s left is for us to drink.
The gift of God is given, wrapped and ready. Since we are declared the active recipients we have to: “know,” “ask,” and “drink” before the water in us becomes (as the Message Bible describes it) “an artesian spring gushing fountains of endless life.”
If you have ever wondered why your life doesn’t exemplify the life we see in the early Church (in the book of Acts), may I suggest that while you may indeed have the gift, perhaps you have not as yet opened the gift? Call in on Wednesday at 7pm at (218) 486-3691 and use the access code 570919. Together we will continue our study in First John so that we can open our gift as we joyously celebrate our Father of lights (James 1:17)!!!
